Personal:

I've been running since I was nine.  I'm married to a fellow runner who inspires and supports me.  We have two children:  Cole (4) and Lily (18 mos.)  I help Bill Cobler coach cross country at East High School.

I ran on the treadmill this morning, since it was pouring outside. I'm not worried about getting wet, as much as visibility that early in the morning. I ran easy for about twenty minutes, and then got bored. I decided to throw a little tempo running into the workout. I read about a 3 x 3k, 2k, 1k workout at marathon, half marathon, 10k pace with a minute recovery in between. A 2:30 marathoner, whose name escapes me, does this workout. I decided to try for two sets. That would be 12k worth of work.

I tried to start easy. First set: 6:18, 6:07, 5:49 pace. Second set, 6:15, 6:00, and then I was finished. I probably should have gutted out the last 1 k, but felt like I was starting to dig pretty deep. I wimped out a bit. Recovering in 1 minute after the 10k effort is what makes the workout really tough. I will try it again, and I want to build to three sets. I barely cooled down because I needed to get home.

I will go back at nine for Total Body Conditioning class.,

Love the workout Emily. Great way to mix things up on the TM.
